I think the sermons on Hope, Peace, and Love have been terrific! ;-)

Seriously, I thought I would share with you why the Advent wreath and decorations like the poinsettia and holly mean so much to me. There was a time when I really, really dreaded Christmas. It wasn't the singing of carols or the worship theme that I regretted. It was the fact that I felt financially hammered at Christmas time and didn't feel like I could give anyone, not even my children, what I wanted to give them. Being in a large church choir at the time, I was forced to go to a Sunday Evening "Hanging of the Greens" service on the first Sunday of Advent. The music, the decorations (complete with the explanation of their meaning), and the special readings really changed my attitude about Christmas.

So, I hope that even if you don't like the candle-lighting and the sometimes strange readings I choose for the Advent emphasis, you'll bear with me and recognize that it's how I personally prepare to get the most out of Christmas.

Thank you for letting me be your pastor.
